Why the Name Origami?
Origami is the ancient Japanese art of paper folding. What begins as a one-dimensional sheet of paper is carefully crafted into a beautiful multi-dimensional piece of art. Following a life-changing injury, individuals and their families may feel defeated, flattened, and overwhelmed by the recovery journey. Like the detailed architecture of paper folding, Origami's specialized care and support bring shape and dimension back into these individuals' lives. At Origami, we support the individual and their family through each intricate detail and fold of the recovery journey to create opportunities and transform lives.

Origami is the art of paper folding. We all know this. This place takes people with brain injuries, and their families, who have been shattered, whose lives have been flattened, and makes them three-dimensional again.

What Makes Origami Unique?

Origami brings experts together across disciplines to help individuals reach their rehabilitation goals. We use a unique approach and a network of community resources to meet the physical, social, spiritual, cognitive, and emotional needs of those who have sustained a neurological injury. We believe in creating opportunities for individuals, maximizing their recovery, and restoring quality of life and independence. Origami generates excellent clinical outcomes and remains on the cutting edge of neurological rehabilitation.

Campus

Recovery can be a challenging time. We use a unique approach and a network of community resources to meet the physical, social, spiritual, cognitive, and emotional needs of those we serve. Our serene and therapeutic campuses are designed to enhance and support recovery and rehabilitation.

Specialization

Since opening in 1997, Origami began as a residential program specialized in serving adults with traumatic brain injury and gradually expanded to become a unique multi-dimensional continuum of care serving children, adolescents, and adults. Although we continue to strategically diversify our population served and maximize access to care for individuals with diagnoses such as mental health and orthopedic conditions, we remain experts in neuro care. That's why our team of experts are Certified Brain Injury Specialists (CBIS).

Personalized Care

While our team continues to grow, our dedication to personalized care remains at the forefront. We offer access to major resources, while still giving individuals the personal experience they deserve. It’s not uncommon for everyone at Origami – from our maintenance and business team, to our therapy team – to know you and your family by name. Our top priority is helping you throughout the recovery process.

Medical Support

Origami's unique partnership with Michigan State University provides us with direct access to the latest rehabilitation trends, clinical research opportunities, and on-call physician support. In addition, our dedicated Medical Director with physiatry expertise oversees clinical care plans.

Vocational Support

Similar to our relationship with MSU, our access to the resources at Peckham, Inc. are unmatched in the area of employment. Peckham provides a wide range of opportunities such as supported employment, return to work skill building, job analysis, retraining, and placement.

Accreditation

Since 1997, we have been accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF).
